Gardening Service

Our Gardening Service assists elderly and disabled clients to make their gardens easier to maintain so they can continue to live in their own homes for longer. We strive to make gardens a source of joy, rather than a cause for worry and stress.

Who is it for?

Our service is available to elderly or disabled residents living in Lane Cove, Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby council areas. With around 100 new client inquiries every year, demand for the service often exceeds capacity, so clients are prioritised based on need and ability to obtain alternative assistance. Pensioners receive higher priority.

Our Gardening Service includes an assessment of your garden. By discussing your objectives, we develop a suitable plan to make your garden easier to maintain.

Our service is provided by a teams of volunteers led by one or more qualified and experienced staff members. In our twice-yearly visits, we then assist with ongoing maintenance. If we are not able to tackle the whole garden at once, we may propose a staged approach.

Our assistance may include:

  • Noxious weed control/removal
  • Recommendation/sourcing/installation of new plants
  • Maintenance tasks such as pruning, weeding, fertilizing etc
  • Mulching
  • Removal of green waste to the tip

Unfortunately lawn mowing or the removal or pruning of large trees is not included.

Depending on gardening work required and client pension status, a fee is charged ranging from $20 – $100. Materials such as mulch and fertilizer and tip fees are charged at cost. Selected ‘easy care’ plants may be provided at a fraction of retail price.
